Growing up poor and being shuffled from one foster home after another, I had dreamed of making it big somehow and moving away from my family. But I never really made it big, and I had found myself missing those that I love so dear. And I had realized that the "pot of gold" was actually the treasure of being with my family and friends. When life is hard and you feel alone, the happiness, warmth and love felt at home can protect you from the cold harsh outdoors.
I first encountered Christopher Gilbert’s poems in his debut volume, published more than 30 years ago. I’ve been waiting for another installment of his particular vision ever since. This poem reads like a love letter to the world — always new to the keen observer. The pacing of the lines enacts the experience of witnessing what seems an ordinary event made extraordinary by the speaker’s attention.

I am glad it was recieved as well as it was. I am reading on Boo's show tonight, my poem may be too scary and depressing we'll see. The spirit of our family relationship can affect our whole life. When that family spirit is present, we have strength, we come together in times of need, we love and support each other. It is not just a house individuals share; it is a home we built, one memory at a time.
He tells NPR's Scott Simon that writing becomes a way to heal and forgive, even if it means confronting a whole lot of hurt. This is about the connections we have with our family/childhood home. I was born there, we grew up there, our father died there, we had many family gatherings there. I have known that house my whole life, visiting my parents, then just my Mother. Today after 63 years it has new owners, only the second family to occupy the house. Waynejent - Thanks for the comment, I wrote it yesterday so I could get on your show.

I was just Googling poems, and I read some poems about Africa. I really liked them, and I was born in the middle of Africa. I never wrote poems about Africa, and I really like the one I wrote, so please tell me what you think. At 93 years old, I have many sleepless nights, and I find comfort in remembering my childhood home on the farm.
To the place where I am loved, where my loved ones all will go. To the place where I am loved, where I'll never be alone. Our World War Two veterans are dying at the rate of more than a thousand a week. I wrote this song as a tribute to them, and the faith that got them through. God bless all who fought for their families, their nation, and their God. Here is the story of a man who looked at a world and saw it differently in the same way that we looked at him and saw that he was different.

He says the first time someone tried to hug him was in college; it felt like a foreign concept to him. In his new book of poetry, Grocery Shopping With My Mother, Powell examines his relationship with the single mother who raised him – the one he now cares for in her older age.

It was one of my very first poems and it inspired me to write more... When I grow up I want to write books of poetry and a book about my life. In this poem I talk about my life (as a fifth grader... when I was ten) and the way I live it.... Please note that this poem includes language and topics that require special consideration from the teacher and students.
Homeward after the visit, time with the carers of a man who, peacefully and without fear of death, had drifted from life. But on the way home, you think its important for you to seek love everyday. This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
